A sleek cozy space on the second floor of M Hotel, The Buffet offers an excellent international buffet for lunch, serving fresh sashimi and seafood. Where it really shines however, is dinner. During dinner, the restaurant offers a steamboat buffet that is amongst the best in the city. The wonder starts with choosing the broth you want for the hot pot; their signature chicken ginseng, the local favourite spicy tom yum or the monthly special, which may be congee or laksa based or something more exotic. Can't decide? Chose all three!
From there you'll realise that in addition to an impressive selection of sliced fish, fresh vegetables, and yong tau fu, there are other reasons why this buffet is so popular, and one of the biggest reasons is their drunken prawns. Prepared at a live station, the herbal soup with a hint of cognac plays off the sweetness of the prawns beautifully, and almost every diner ends up going for seconds. We know we did.
Part of the enjoyment of steamboat is having the appropriate accompaniment for each item, and The Buffet does not disappoint in this aspect. Dipping sauces are available for their meat and seafood selections, and even better, if you're feeling out your depth, we've found the staff both knowledgeable and friendly, a definite plus point for any restaurant. "The Buffet Dinner is a steamboat buffet served during dinner daily with a wide range of seafood like drunken prawns, oysters and yong tau foo among other perennial favourites." -Asia One
With a name like The Buffet, you'd think we love the fact that it's all you can eat. Team Chope however, has long realised that quantity, does not always mean quality. Thankfully at The Buffet, you get both.
The selection of food is immense; drunk prawns, wok-fried crabs, various seafood options, different types of broth for your steamboat, there is undeniably something for everyone. Yet despite the broad selection, everything is of the utmost quality. The soups are well-balanced and fragrant, the seafood as fresh as they come. In some ways, like steamboat or hot pot, it's hard to pinpoint what we love about The Buffet, because it's very much about how everything comes together.
The food. The ambience. The service staff. They all play their parts like the ingredients in the hot pot stock, and like the stock at The Buffet, it turns out very well. Team Chope left very satisfied, and judging on the faces of our fellow diners, most who visit the Buffet do. Don't just take our word for it though, the Buffet is a great place to bring the family and bond over a wholesome, delicious meal, so whether you're going as a parent, or with your parents, there's no excuse. "Some days you find yourself exceptionally hungry. Some days call for a buffet – and while we are at it, why not two? M Hotel conveniently houses differently themed buffets for lunch and dinner, decorated comfortably with dark wood and light leather-seated chairs. The Asian Buffet Lunch selection offers a slew of hot oriental fare including black pepper crab, soups, a carving station, a selection of sushi, and a sugar rush of a dessert section with evergreen favorites such as Nonya kuehs and durian pengat. Not long after, the Steamboat Buffet Dinner showcases the head chef’s monthly soup base alongside spreads of seafood items and yong tau foo. Make sure to save room for the signature herbal drunken prawns that are prepared live."
