Tanjong Beach Club almost needs no introduction. Having been called everything from "Singapore's sexiest strip of sand" to "The ultimate premier getaway", it is as postcard perfect as the pictures suggest, and then some. Little wonder then that the highly rated reality TV show, Top Chef, chose to feature this idyllic location when filming its Season 7 Finale right here in Singapore. To quote a famous singer, "it's bringing sexy back".
Tucked away at the far end of Sentosa, just past the last stop of the Tanjong Beach Tram line, this escape just exudes exclusivity. Don't be fooled though, it's much more than just a sunny beach oasis. The Dining Room anchors this location and complements its surroundings beautifully. It is absolutely stunning with 2 storey floor to ceiling windows that creates a truly unique space, allowing you to gaze out upon the panoramic azure sky and golden sand as you enjoy the fresh take on coastal dining and modern seafood. As you step in, you can feel the frenzy of the world outside just melt away.
Helmed by Executive Chef Craig Schantz, the kitchen presents dishes that draw on European culinary technique, and bring together seafood, and quality produce from regional suppliers. Vegetables and herbs are from a sustainably-run farm in Malaysia, and the menu is filled with little twists that really showcase Schantz’s creativity and innate understanding of the ingredients he works with. Whether you take a starter, seafood, or a steak off the grill, know that the food is executed with panache and aplomb, and you won't be disappointed. (Apr 2012)
“What makes the food at Tanjong Beach Club stimulating is Chef’s keen awareness of textures on his plates. There are always the elements of crisp, crunch and creaminess that are integral to ensuring that every mouthful is compelling.” –TODAY
“Creations that reflect the chef’s talent for combinations that taste good.” –The Straits Times
“It’s hard to resist the relaxed, convivial vibe at this spot by the sea. Their delish weekend brunches are great, particularly when followed by a day lazing on the beach.” – WHERE Singapore
There’s little not to love about the Tanjong Beach Club experience. There’s a spectacular view (even when there’s no one on the beach), the ambience is comfortable, chic and indulgent, and the food and service are excellent.
That said however, the biggest reason why we’d go back would always be the food. We were absolutely floored by Super Surf & Turf! An epic serving of hanger steak, cracked Maine lobster, and four sauces, this dish captures the heart and soul of TBC perfectly.
We were also captivated by the foie gras kaya toasts. The cold savoury richness of the foie gras was balanced excellently by the sweetness of the kaya. Personally we thought the combination of foie gras and kaya was a brilliant local interpretation of the classical foie gras and varying types of fruit confit. After all, isn’t kaya coconut jam?
