Is your boss driving you crazy at work? Are your wacky friends looking for a place to hang out? Or do you just want a place where you can be a little, well, loco? Located conveniently in the Central Business District along the waterfront promenade of Boat Quay, LOCO (which means crazy in Spanish) Spanish Tapas Bar allows you to do just that.
Loco Spanish Tapas Bar is an upscale, yet non-pretentious outlet with a cellar-like entrance imbued with Spanish motifs – a relaxing hue of colour schemes, accentuated by vibrant and energetic custom artworks overlaying distressed wooden furniture. It aims to provide a crazy but fun atmosphere to unwind and relax while dining on some cold and hot tapas, paella and signature drinks in the company of old friends and new ones you might just make along the way.
Where other places might frown upon playful antics, LOCO readily encourages you to let your hair down. As evidence of their credo, a large portrait of the iconic Spanish surrealist painter Salvador Dali, proponent of all things wild, passionate and quirky is painted on a back wall, welcoming one and all as they enter.
With a panoramic view of the picturesque historical Singapore river front, Loco Spanish Tapas Bar is headed by Chef Sudirman bin Alias who takes pride in his culinary expertise in Spanish cuisine, having previously worked in several Spanish restaurants. Chef Man has also drawn inspiration from his many culinary visits to Spain.
Signature drinks include red and yellow Sangria, boasting fresh fruits, brandy and wine. The drinks menu also includes Mojitos, Margaritas, a selection of draft and bottled beer, cocktails and wine. What's more, customers are served free tapas with any order of beer. Te veo ahí pronto! (May 2012)
"Head over to Loco Spanish Tapas Bar for massive treats of tapas, beer, Spanish wines and sangria. Try its signature dish Paella Valenciana - a classic rice dish from Valencia prepared with chorizo, seafood, chicken and vegetables cooked in homemade stock." -InSing.com

We loved the smorgasbord of tapas that LOCO has to offer. The Cordero al Ajo (rack of lamb spiced with garlic and aromatic herbs) was tender and juicy, as was the Solomillo al ajo (beef tenderloin cubes in olive and garlic). For seafood lovers, the Gambas al Ajillo (shrimps sautéed in garlic and olive oil) is yet another of the chef’s specialties. We also thoroughly enjoyed the Croquettas de pollo (chicken croquettes) that was fried to a crisp and highly addictive.
It is difficult to find good paella in Singapore but the Paella Valenciana, a dish of chorizo, chicken, seafood, and vegetables simmered slowly with the chef’s secret homemade broth, sure was excellent. The best part of this dish is the slightly burnt yet flavourful crust of rice that sticks to the bottom of the pan, illustrating exactly how paella is supposed to turn out.
The churros with chocolate dip, served hot and crisp with a light dusting of sugar was an immediate hit with the dessert lovers amongst us. Coupled with several jugs of sangria, one is sure to leave LOCO slightly moonstruck. (May 2012)

"The high chairs and tables, sunny lighting and bold murals project this as an upscale yet unpretentious watering hole. The kitchen is led by chef Sudirman bin Alias (aka Chef Man), who formulated the menu from his many trips to Spain: the paella valenciana ($35) comes with chorizo, chicken, seafood and vegetables simmered in home-made broth; calamares rellenos (grilled stuffed squid, $12.50) and tortilla española (Spanish omelette, $8) are staples. We have high hopes for the churros con chocolate (deep-fried dough with home-made chocolate sauce, $7)."
