Nestled in the Greenwood housing estate just off Bukit Timah Road, lies an institution dedicated to fresh seafood. Judging by the army of loyal clientele who swear by it and visit on a regular basis, Greenwood Fish Market and Bistro can’t really be considered a hidden gem. However, if you have not heard of it before, consider yourself now officially in on this open secret.
It started originally as a fish market at #34 Greenwood Avenue with a small bistro at the back to cater to the appetite of its customers who couldn’t wait to eat the day’s freshest catch. It is testament to its popularity that it quickly outgrew its premises and expanded to #38, offering a much larger dedicated dining room along with outdoor seating. To this day, some diners still prefer the more cosy setting of the original at #34. Specialising in fresh seafood flown in from all over the world, daily deliveries ensure that you are getting only the best. You’ll also be spoiled for choice with their truly impressive wine selection that boasts over 120 different bottles to perfectly complement any meal or budget!
The staff are extremely friendly and knowledgeable and are always keen to recommend to you the freshest catch of the day, cooked in a style that really brings out the natural flavours and textures of that fish. By taking a "less is more" approach, Greenwood Fish Market and Bistro lovingly showcases the fresh seafood and allows it to take center stage where it belongs. (Oct 2011)
"With a wide array of fresh seafood, house specialties, fine wines and responsive service to boot, dining at Greenwood Fish Market is a pleasure. The cold seafood platter is spectacular, a no-brainer for seafood lovers. Presented on a rectangular plate so large it covers almost the entirety of a single table, the platter serves up generous helpings of smoked king salmon, fresh creamy oysters, juicy mussels, tasty clams, fleshy steamed lobster, Japanese octopus in sweet sauce and tuna with cucumber bits." -Asia Tatler Dining
"Only the freshest seafood prepared to your specification. Freshly shucked oysters served with a twist of lemon, creamy mary point oysters from British Columbia and the Barron Point oysters measuring four to five inches. Feast on luscious black mussels sautéed with wine and garlic as well as a pan-seared lemon sole served with lemon butter." -CNNGo.com
"This is a seriously popular dive with Greenwood locals, so it's best to call ahead to net yourself a table." -Time Out Singapore
We love the fact that there are special reasons to visit during the week to unwind with daily specials from Monday to Thursday that are a real crowd-puller (and in our opinion, a real bargain!). On Mondays', it's Shellfish and Lobster. On Tuesdays', it's Fresh Oysters. On Wednesdays, it's Sashimi. On Thursday, it's King Crab Legs and Beer. No matter what your fancy, you'll soon have a favourite day. No wonder that reservations here are a must every day of the week to prevent disappointment.
Those dining in larger groups or those who just can't bear to bring yourself to choose just 1 or 2 appetisers (like us!), consider sharing the unique Hot or Cold Seafood Platter that are truly visual and gastronomic spectacles that have to be seen to be believed and shared to be enjoyed. Customers have been known to come back again with more friends just so that they can order BOTH the hot and cold platters at the same time!
For the kids (or the very young at heart), the crowd favourite Fish and Chips certainly do not disappoint. 2 chunky fillets divinely battered (or crumbed) and perfectly fried will satisfy even the most picky of eaters. It's little wonder that some regulars swear by its ability to make their children eat more fish.
There are so many reasons to be back again and again. You can be certain that we will be. (Oct 2011)

"There are some dishes that never go out of style, fish 'n' chips being one of 'em. And when you get a craving for this age-old favourite you can opt for the cheap as chips, fast-food variety or go for the halibut, and pay hook, line and sinker for a meal. Thankfully this cosy bistro on Greenwood Avenue anchors itself somewhere in the middle, offering fresh selections of the ocean's finest without landing a weighty bill.
The fish, nearly 30 varieties of them, come in four grades; from $18.95, through to the exclusive catch of the day ($29.95), flown in direct that morning. The fillets can be prepared four ways, the most popular being pan-seared or battered. The latter is a bit hit and miss: the batter can come off stodgy, masking the taste of the fluffy white alfonsino. The marlin (New Zealand swordfish), however, comes off light and crispy to the last bite. A garden salad and ample serving of chips (not hand-cut) are served alongside.
Alternative selections include the lip-wetting Chilean red miso black cod, and we're also intrigued by the foie gras and scallop served atop sultanas, fig, port and buttery brioche. Just one caveat: this is a seriously popular dive with Greenwood locals, so it's best to call ahead to net yourself a table." -Time Out Singapore
