Once a cosy neighborhood eatery hidden away in Newton, District 10 has moved to a more central location in UE Square, where it recently re-opened with a revamped concept and a brand new menu to boot. As the more affordable restaurant in the Bonta group, District 10 offers diners the opportunity to try highly acclaimed Chef Luca Pezzera’s creations at more accessible prices in a laidback setting, where they can spend hours sipping cocktails and enjoying the contemporary, yet rustic ambience. With a more accessible location than before, city dwellers and the after-work crowd can now easily stop by District 10, where the relaxing decor features eco-friendly wood panels recycled from the old location and a patio full of sleekly designed tables made from poured concrete.
Previously known as District 10 Bistro, the eatery has been renamed District 10 Bar & Restaurant and boasts an extensive drinks list, including signature cocktails like the Green Bull (Vodka, Blue Curacao, Orange Juice and Red Bull) and Sticky Morning (Jaegermeister, Butterscotch, Amaretto and Baileys). Considering everyone gets a free Bloody Mary at Sunday brunch, drinks are definitely now in focus at District 10. But fans of Chef Luca’s premium cuisine shouldn’t worry about the attention being taken away from the food.
Once hailed as one of Top 100 Most Influential People by Indonesia Tatler, Chef Luca has long been known for his culinary talent at creating outstanding Italian fare. Guests will be in for a surprise at District 10, where his creations reflect cultural influences from all over the world. From hearty dishes (like Argentine steaks and traditional shepherd’s pie) to more sophisticated creations (like parmesan cheese-bacon croquettes and home-made duck spring rolls with sweet chili dressing), District 10′s new menu seems to have something to satisfy any craving. "Boasting nature as an ongoing theme at its original location just off Bukit Timah Road, District 10 has relocated to a space across the street from Robertson Walk and taken on a completely new persona. We’d recommend the Kopitini’s ($16) instant caffeine jolt for drinkers who are looking to make it a late night; best not try one on a weeknight though, as we found out the hard way." -Time Out Singapore
"Must-tries include the house specialty, District 10 salad ($12) that satisfies with a mix of lettuce, mushrooms, feta cheese and roasted roma tomato with balsamic dressing drizzled in just the right amount." -Singapore Dine
"It’s difficult to find a good spot for after work drinks with just the right vibe, and that serves food that’s not just deep-fried pub grub. As a bonus, happy hour runs from when they open till 7pm daily." -I-S Asia-City
Some places are known for great drinks while others are known for great food. We love that at District 10, we can hang out over drinks, but if we get peckish, there will be Chef Luca's gourmet food on the premises to satisfy our hunger. There are so many added perks of hanging out at District 10 that we don't quite know where to begin.
With a resident DJ spinning on Wednesday nights, District 10 isn't just about food and drinks, but coming together and enjoying a fun and vibrant scene. And the restaurant seems to be the gift that keeps giving. Ladies get a free drink on Wednesday nights as well! Even the affordably priced $88 champagne bottle service comes with an assortment of canapes.
To kick off your time at District 10, we'd suggest ordering the Kopitini, a pick-me-up cocktail of Tia Maria, scotch whiskey, and coffee. Even if we're just out for drinks, the Chope team likes to snack on sharable plates of food, which probably explains our love of the Hoegaarden-battered fish and chips. District 10's version may just refute any preconceived notions of fish and chips as greasy, heavy food. With rice flour as a special ingredient to keep the batter light, the thinly cut, batter-crusted fish seems more like a light tempura than a grease-laden meal. We'd also highly recommend the linguine, which transforms simple ingredients (a light coating of olive oil, just a hint of chili, and an abundance of jumbo lump crab meat) into an incredibly satisfying entree.
Finally, even if you're feeling full, you may just have room for the light and refreshing pavlova. A welcome change from traditionally creamy desserts, this dessert consists of a sweet meringue, homemade passion fruit ice cream (so airy we thought it was more like a granita or sorbet), and strawberry salsa. "We are glad District 10’s come out into the open field. The new pad’s much more accessible – an expansive, warmly lit indoor and outdoor space under the shelter of UE Square. Gone are the wicker chairs, replaced by black, iron-legged seats with wooden-planked backs. It may not look as comfortable, but you’ll appreciate its upright qualities when shilly-shallying between your favourite EPL teams on the 52-inch screen and the parmesan foie gras croquettes ($16) and braised Wagyu beef cheek ($29) on the table. Make sure you feign injury when caught intercepting the last slice of cheek – it worked well for us."
