Covelli is a multi-concept business, with something to eat, drink, and wear. Yes, we really did say something to wear. Located in the basement of Orchard Central, Covelli houses an Italian bistro, wine bar, and women’s apparel store. But here at Chope, we like to focus on the food!
Covelli's new chef Dean Ng has put together an innovative menu which is simple yet contemporary, with menu items including Black Truffle Ravioli and Pan-seared Prawns and Scallops on Sundried Tomato Puree.
As for its wine bar, Covelli offers a varied selection of over 60 wines from Italy, Australia, France, and Spain. With grand seating and a private dining room, Covelli is an ideal location for private functions and corporate dinners. (Jan 2012)
"Making full use of the eclectic interior space of the shopping mall, Covelli has nestled itself quite comfortably across the 3,000 square feet corner, creating a little retail haven of its own with its bistro, wine bar and fashion boutique concepts." -Asia Tatler Dining
"If wining, dining and shopping are your guilty pleasures, then spoil yourself at Covelli Italian Bistro & Wine Bar at Orchard Central." -Appetite Asia
Covelli isn’t your traditional Italian restaurant. The eclectic ingredients make for appetizing dishes such as the Filetto di Manzo (beef medium done with pumpkin puree). However, for those in the mood for something simple, we’d suggest the Mushroom Soup with White Truffle, which is uncomplicated, yet flavourful. Besides their extensive wine list, Covelli also offers interesting drinks like the Lychee Prosecco.
For dessert, we enjoyed the sticky date pudding. Covelli offers an unusual approach to this dessert. With a crunchy layer, this pudding isn’t what you’d typically expect in a normal pudding, but combined with vanilla ice cream and butterscotch sauce, it made for an excellent sweet finish to our meal. "This semi-enclosed monochromatic restaurant is part of a trifecta by Christopher Njo, the man behind the 2004 Roti Boy craze. The 95-seater rests on a 3,000 sq ft space alongside a wine bar (with a 60-plus wine list from Italy, France, Spain and Australia) and apparel, bags and accessories retailer Esye. Former Michelangelo chef Dennis Ong puts together traditional Italian flavours with a touch of modernity: the capesante e gamberi ($23) starter is pan-seared prawns, Avruga caviar and semi-sun-dried tomato purée on a scallop and sweet onion confit, while the Covelli Supreme Pizza ($18++) is more minimalist with black olives, oregano, basil and mozzarella over home-made tomato sauce on a thin crust."
