The draw of any buffet often boils down to two factors: quality and variety. Checkers Brasserie at the Hilton Singapore has both these traits in spades. Not only is the buffet line generous and plentiful, dinner has a different theme almost every day just so you have an excuse to go back each day for an entire week!
On Mondays it’s Herbs & Spices and on Tuesdays you have Thai. Next up you have Japanese on Wednesdays, Mediterranean on Thursdays and the immensely popular Seafood buffet on Friday night. Is that enough variety for you? No? Well then you’ll also want to try out the high tea buffet on Saturdays AND the Champagne Brunch buffet on Sunday! Nope, we weren't exaggerating when we said that Checkers has variety absolutely, completely, down pat.
That makes the consistency and quality of Checkers even more impressive! They don’t execute one menu well; they pull off SEVEN stunning buffet spreads. Whether you’re marveling at the Louis Roederer Champagne served in half bottles to keep every glass crisp and bubbly, or noticing the five varieties of mustard that came with your tender, succulent cut of meat, the Hilton commitment to quality is something one can’t help but notice.
When you choose to dine at Checkers Brasserie, you’re definitely in good hands. (Sep 2012)
"Pamper your tastebuds with cuisines like Wagyu beef shawarma, freshly smoked French oysters and a wide variety of roasts to choose from." -Time Out Singapore
Where do we start? Fresh lobster, Alaskan king crab, oysters, all laid out spectacularly for you to pounce on once you’re armed with your trusty finger bowl. Cold or cooked, a mixture of both, it’s all up to you! Feeling a little jaded? Try the giant razor clams! Like everything else at the cooked seafood station, it comes with a sauce specially paired with the seafood to best bring out the flavour. Needless to say, we absolutely loved them.
We also were particularly delighted with the Tiffany Eggs at the brunch buffet: soft boiled eggs topped with sour cream and caviar, they went perfectly with some pan-fried foie gras on toast.
The phrase 'there’s something for everyone' can’t ring more true than in a gastronomic paradise like Checkers. Each member of the Chope team loved something different, which just goes to show how high the standard was!
Regardless of your allegiance, seafood, meat, vegetables or everything, all paths lead back to the dessert station. When there, don’t overlook the delicate Raspberry Yuzu sponge cake! Awarded 'Cake of the Year' in August 2012 by The Straits Times, you’ll marvel at the balance of flavours and delicate texture of this disarmingly named treat.
So prepare accordingly before you Chope a table at Checkers. Skip the meal prior. You’ll need the space. (Sep 2012)
