Drive along Bukit Timah road and the turquoise and whitewashed exterior of Blu Kouzina will most certainly catch your attention. With this fine gem on the culinary scene, you no longer have to travel halfway around the globe to enjoy authentic Greek food!
Founded by husband and wife team, Dennis and Effie Tsakiris, Blu Kouzina was born out of the founders' love of food and experiencing a hearty meal with friends. And that's exactly how you'll feel when you dine at this fine establishment. Personalised service, a warm environment and extremely tasty food are just a few of the things that are in store when you make a trip down to this four-storey building in the lush residential area of Bukit Timah.
On the ground floor, the open kitchen buzzes with activity as chefs tirelessly prepare traditional Greek recipes with the freshest of ingredients, such as lamb that arrives fresh and unfrozen from New Zealand, and sea bream that is flown in fresh from Greece every Friday.
Greek cooking usually does not a rely on a large amount of ingredients or intricate techniques for preparing a single dish, but rather focuses on using the best possible handful of components to create a delicious and filling meal. And at the center of it all, olive oil. Blu Kouzina not only serves Greek olive oil, but some of the best! Produced by their own family’s Messinea estate, the olive oil which they cheekily named 'Green Gold', is intensely fruity and light in flavour, making it a clear winner in our books. Can't seem to get enough? Well you're in luck as the olive oil is readily available for purchase!
A staircase in the back takes you up to two larger dining areas, thoughtfully decorated with seashells and other trinkets, adding to atmosphere that you are more likely somewhere off in the Mediterranean than in the humid confines of Singapore.
Finally, we thoroughly respect the owners' decision not to adapt any of the dishes to suit local palates and to remain truly authentic to their heritage. To us, it's a decision that has truly paid off! (Jul 2012)
"The rib-sticking grilled lamb chop, served with a casserole of grilled, oregano-flecked seasonal vegetables and doused heavily in olive oil, is first rate." -Time Out Singapore
"The authentic Greek food, along with the attention to detail, makes this a must-try." -I-S Asia City
"By marrying their passion for the food of their native Greece and the family’s signature olive oil, the proprietors have created a warm environment that will take you on a short journey to Greece." -Appetite Asia
We loved that Dennis and Effie spared no expense in creating what we feel is a truly comfortable, home away from home. That is, if your home was somewhere in the Greek isles! From the whitewashed furniture, to the turquois placemats and the wood and brick accents, Blu Kouzina truly stands out in the best way possible.
To start our scrumptious meal, we had some Tzatziki which consists of thick Greek yoghurt mixed with shredded cucumber, garlic and lots of olive oil. Creamy, fresh and with just the right amount of tartness, the dish was a wonderful way to whet our appetite especially when heaped on our crispy pita bread which was lightly sprinkled with sea salt and paprika.
For mains, we loved the Bifteki Stin Sxara. The grilled beef patties came served on a sizzling hot plate with lemon, tomatoes, onions and a hearty portion of roast potatoes. Once again, after devouring the dish in record time, we couldn't help but lap up the additional olive oil mixed with the juice from the tender patties.
End your meal with a traditional baklava, a filo pasty filled with walnuts and topped with homemade syrup, or one of their many specialty dessert wines to provide you with that sweet aftertaste.
From start to finish, we're certain that you'll get lost in the relaxing setting and the glorious food! We sure did. (Jul 2012)

"Advance booking is essential if you want to dine at this new but already hugely popular Greek restaurant. Set in a whitewashed shophouse next to a wine retailer along Bukit Timah Road, the husband-and-wife-run Blu Kouzina is split over three storeys, and its calming, Mediterranean-inspired interior is cluttered with pottery, cupboards and trinkets. As you walk past the open kitchen – located right by the entrance – a whiff of char-grilled meats wafts up, catching you deliciously unawares."
