Tea in hand, soft piano music surrounding you, Axis Bar and Lounge offers that quintessential afternoon tea experience. An amazing view, a classy understated setting, and food so delectable you leave still wanting more.

The range of sandwiches, savouries, scones and sweets on offer at the Axis Bar and Lounge have a little something for everyone. And despite the breadth of offerings, each and every portion is prepared with precision, excellence and aplomb. The recently revamped menu has the lightest of French influences, and the offerings sound just as scrumptious as before. Savouries such as pita bread with roast beef, crab remoulade on toast, and the chef's selection of savoury panna cotta were all absolutely divine. We were particularly enchanted by the feta cheese and sun-dried tomato puff, which was an explosion of Mediterraneanesque flavours.

You'll also be smitten with the sweet options on their menu, with items like Earl Grey and Sarawak Pineapple Crumble Tart, Mango Kaffir Lime Cremeux and Chocolate and Orange Tart to tempt you further into culinary indulgence.

If an afternoon tea is just a little too proper for you, then maybe you ought to spice it up with one of Axis' many wines or Champagnes by the glass. The bar makes it a point to change exactly what's on offer regularly, so you'll always be able to try something new without having to polish off a whole bottle. Perfect for giving your afternoon tea date a little rakish charm.

As much as we love the staples of any afternoon tea, we were quite excited to see 'savoury panna cotta' on the menu at Axis Bar and Lounge. Yes we enjoyed the smoked salmon on pumpernickel bread sandwiches and the pita bread with egg tartar, creme fraiche and chives, but team Chope's always intrigued by something new, and Axis Bar and Lounge's selection of savoury panna cotta were simply scrumptious.

Did we also mention that they also have other delicious treats such as their a daily selection of warm quiche which was so delicious we couldn't help wanting more?

Indeed what we absolutely adore about Axis Bar and Lounge is that it leaves nothing about your experience to chance. The staff offer impeccable service and manage to be both surreptitious yet attentive. The view of the harbour is absolutely beautiful, especially when the sun's catching the water at just the right angle, and of course, the food. The food is delicious even though there's such a generous range on offer. There is no compromise of quality or quantity, no corners cut or shortcuts taken.

Don't forget that first and foremost however, Axis is a bar and we love their take on classic cocktails. Done with a molecular twist, we highly recommend the molecular mojito, deliciously refreshing on any hot day. We were also sorely tempted by the Tiramisu, an exquisite combination of Absolut vanilla vodka, Kahlua, fresh chocolate, espresso, and mascarpone. Sounds like a afternoon tea feast in a glass doesn't it? So as you sit, nibbling away on your sandwich, whether you're comforted by an elegant Earl Grey or a snazzy Martini, let the world spin madly around you. You've earned yourself some indulgence.
